This module is for Algebra 1, Grades 7-12 Welcome
Stand up in front of your computer. Take two steps to the left. How has your body changed? Now, bend at your knees and touch the ground. How has your body changed? Stand up straight and take a deep breath. How has your body changed?
You can move your body in lots of ways. Sometimes, like when you moved to the left, only your position changes. Sometimes, like when you took a deep breath, your body grows a little bigger. Mathematical relationships such as functions can go through similar transformations. Functions can be transformed left and right, as well as up and down, in the xy-coordinate plane. Functions can also be stretched and shrunk from their original size. This module will show you how this can be done.
Module Objective
By the end of this module, you will be able to:
- Identify the effect on the graph of f of x when replacing f of x by f of x plus k, k times f of x, f of k times x, and f of the quantity x plus k for specific values of k.
- Find the value of k given the graphs of f of x, f of x plus k, k times f of x, f of k times x, and f of the quantity x plus k.

Skills
- Identify the transformation on a function as a translation, rotation, reflection, dilation, reduction, or a combination of these transformations.
- Recognize the graph of a given function and the transformation of the given function.
